I am going to try something a little different. I am going to try and add the photos to the end of the text. We will see what happens.
Last week was another crazy busy week, but Friday I got to go with Elder Olson to put new participants on the which will help new missionaries find people a whole lot easier than we were able to do when we first arrived.
In any case I did not realize that I missed doing that so much. I mean spending a whole day with Elder Olson and not staying home alone. The people of course already knew him and it is so evident how much they love their Elder Olson. The first place we stopped was Robert and Millie's. Elder Olson brushed out Julisa's hair and she seem to really enjoy the attention. The whole family lives in the one hogan type house and as far as I know they have only one window. I didn't see any evidence of electricity either, but maybe they weren't using it because the sun was up and even though it was overcast and cold they had their wood stove going pretty well.
The little baby who turned out to be a year old was wrapped tightly in his cradle board, but seemed very happy to get out and be on his feet and moving. He was so cute. I was glad I asked the baby's name, which I can't remember at the moment.
We managed to get 30 people on the GPS and were gone most of the day. Elder Olson took me to the Shonto Trading Post which is an absolutely beautiful place, hidden away in a canyon, off the beaten track.
The very last place we stopped was a place I recognized from having been there when we first arrived on our mission. We had actually been looking for someone else, but saw an older woman and a man on the front porch. It turned out that the person we were looking for lived just a short distance away. We did visit for a while and I asked about a picture, but the man was very adamant and said, "No" Well the old woman we had seen was still there, but it was her daughter and son-in-law that was with her Friday. Elder Olson had helped them put in a garden the Monday before we left last spring. The daughter was the one who brought the rug by Tues. just before we left.
She was delighted to meet me and we visited for a quite a while. She took me to the house next door and showed me where she weaves. She also showed me 3 rugs she was getting ready to take to an auction in Prescott. They could not have been more receptive and kind to us.
Our first experience was not a bad one at all, but just so different than the one we had Friday. It never ceases to amaze me how well God orchestras our lives.
Today we did not have regular meetings. Instead we attended 3 sessions for the Dedication of the Gilbert, AZ Temple. It was so uplifting. The second session was all about the purpose and encouraging everyone to do their own family history. I can tell you that I was not the only one crying.
I hope everyone in our family will spend more time finding stories about our ancestors and adding those stories to our family tree. We have a great heritage and we need to find out more and make sure our descendants know what we know, so it will not be lost.
There's a poster at the Joseph Smith Memorial building that says, "When an old man dies, a library burns!" There is more truth to that than you can imagine. It goes without saying that the same is true of an old lady.
On that happy note, I will sign off for now. We would love to hear from all of you.
