This to me is real dedication, fortunately the ground was easy to till. Her name is Ophelia and it is easy to see how badly to she wants to have a garden. There are lots of people who feel the way she does. They want a garden, but they just need a little help in getting started. We are glad that we can be a part of helping her make that happen.
Friday I had another oral surgery. They put a screw down into my jaw bone and then put a cap on top of it until it heals well enough to have them put the "fake tooth" on. Dr. Baille said we will have to wait 3-6 months to make sure everything is perfectly healed before they will proceed. I must admit, I did not feel any pain during surgery, but Friday afternoon wasn't the best day I've had. ;o} I only took one of the pain pills and it seems to be fine. That was on the lower right side. Since I have a temporary crown on the lower left back side, I can only chew in the front, starting to feel like a rabbit. I go back in two weeks to have the stitches removed and if the left lower temporary is going well they will send off for the permanent crown. We are managing to keep the road to Page and Flagstaff well traveled.
It always makes me smile when I see this kind of picture. Is he supervising or thinking when is he going to let me have a turn? It is so fun to see family and friends making it happen.
Tomorrow is our first Missionary Meeting for this year. We have a couple and her father who are serving in the San Carlos area come, as well as a couple serving in Tes Nos Pas which is in the Kirkland, New Mexico Stake. I sent emails to a lot of people, but not everyone responded, so I am not sure how many will be here. We also were informed Sat, that they are doing the cultural hall floor this week and no one will be allowed in there, so we are going to have to get a little creative about where we have our first participant demo on Thurs. I am not sure how many we can squeeze into the Primary Room, but we are going to find out. I was disappointed that we were not told sooner, so we could have changed our first Demo Date, but I am confident it will all work out, and we can choose to be stressed or just deal with it.
Elder Olson and I were assigned to speak in Polacca today. That branch is always so fun to go to and speak. The people are wonderful. One of the sisters has a son who is serving in the same mission as Dallin did. He loves it too. He has been out almost a year. Sister Talaswaima is the Family History Director. She loves her calling and is doing a great job.
Elder Olson and I have been listening to "The Work and the Glory" when we travel. He has already read it, but I haven't so it has been fun to listen to it together, although he will never tell me if things are going to work out OK. He says, just listen and you will find out.
He has been working on the alley way between the our church and the Catholic Church. There is a very small stream, if it could be called a stream. It is the run off from the ponds above the housing area behind the church. Our community service volunteers have been dragging the branches he cuts off to the top of the alley way. The man from Natural Resources is going to bring over his "Big Chipper" when we have all the branches piled up.
We also were able to contact the maintenance people from the boarding school to bring over there big equipment to clean out the culvert at the top, which allows the water to run through much easier. Elder O has been cleaning out the whole pathway from top to bottom. He says it reminded him of what he did as a child. I think he just likes to play in the water myself. ;o}
This is the before picture of one of the areas in the alley way. The above picture is to the left and just below the area in this next picture . The whole alley looked like the above picture, so you can see that a lot has been done already and what a difference it is making. Someone has managed to put graffiti on the fence already, but you can't see it from our side.
Earl Blackhair from the Boarding School, used his big back hoe to push the dirt around and fill in the areas along our fence. First he put a few of the big chunks of cement into the low areas then filled it in with the sand he dug from the outlet at the top. It has been really fun to see it all change.
It is similar to what we sometimes do with our lives when we let them get filled with clutter and baggage that we don't need to carry around. It takes time and effort to change, but you can see a difference and it encourages you to keep working on things. It has been interesting to be out there and have folks walk through, which they do all the time, but now they stop and comment on how it is changing.
Well Elder Olson wants me to walk out and see what he did yesterday. I will be sure to take some pictures. Thanks for the emails we got this week.
